Keep your upgraded wheel. Keep your buttons.
This compact harness lets the button set on the MME steering wheels we sell feed your radio’s steering-wheel-control (SWC) interface—so you retain volume, track, mode/source and more after upgrading your wheel on classic Toyotas.
Highlights
-
Toyota ≤1984 compatible: Designed for classic Toyota 12V systems (pre-CAN/LIN).
-
Radio-ready: Works with any head unit that supports SWC input when paired with an SWC interface/module (sold separately).
-
Clean install: Slim, flexible loom routes through the hub; no tapping into airbag circuits (not present on most pre-’85 vehicles).
-
Smart mapping: Use your SWC module’s “learn” function to assign short/long-press actions to each button.
-
Durable build: Automotive-grade wiring, strain relief, and insulated connectors suited for behind-dash environments.
Compatibility
-
Vehicles: All Toyota models 1984 and older (e.g., Land Cruiser 40/60, Hilux/Truck, Corolla, Celica, Cressida, Supra Mk1/Mk2, etc.).
-
Steering wheels: MME Powerhouse wheels equipped with our button sets (or compatible button PCBs).
-
Head units: Aftermarket radios (Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, Sony, JVC, etc.) with SWC input via 3.5mm or Key1/Key2 leads when used with an SWC interface/module.
-
Quick-release hubs: Compatible as long as the button harness remains routed through the hub/slip ring.

MME Steering Wheel Button Wire Harness (Toyota ≤1984 universal)
Installation (overview)
-
Route the harness through the steering wheel/hub toward the dash.
-
Connect to the MME wheel’s button connector.
-
Connect the opposite end to your SWC interface/module (or to the radio via the proper SWC patch lead).
-
Put the module in learn mode and map each button to the desired function.
Typical time: 30–60 min with basic hand tools.
Notes
-
Slip ring/through-hub path required: Classic Toyotas may need a pass-through hub or slip-ring solution to carry button signals—ensure your hub supports cable routing.
-
Some radios require enabling/choosing SWC in settings.
-
This harness does not interface with horn or airbag circuits.
-
For factory (OE) radios without SWC support, use an appropriate adapter/interface or upgrade to an SWC-capable head unit.
FAQs
Will it work with my factory radio?
If your OE radio accepts SWC (rare on pre-’85), yes. Otherwise use an SWC interface/adapter or an aftermarket radio with SWC.
Can I change what each button does?
Yes—your SWC module’s learn mode lets you assign functions and long-press actions.
Does it work with a quick-release hub?
Yes, if the harness can be routed through the hub or via a compatible slip-ring pass-through.
